Xomnia’s new faces
#Newbies-overload alert! We want to thank you for all the sharing, likes, recommendations, and applications on our job postings so far. With your support this warm summer, Xomnia welcomes no less than 24 new team members! Wow, our absolute hiring record!! Welcome guys, and thanks all! In this tight market, a little help makes a great difference. Let’s meet some of these newbies and their motivation to join our adventure.
Laura, People Captain
Well Laura, tell us why did you choose for Xomnia?
“I chose for Xomnia because I see the organization as a young, dynamic, and ambitious club where smart and enthusiastic people work. The fact that there is much more to gain from HR and my personal fascination for IT, big data, and AI make that I start here with a lot of enthusiasm. Deep inside I am a little bit nerdy, I learned the basics of Python by myself, being able to make websites and did ITIL and scrum master courses/training sessions.”
Neo, Talent Consultant
Neo, why Xomnia? “I believe that within the current Big Data climate Xomnia is often imitated but never duplicated. Now, I want to help Xomnia in it’s growth from a startup to a scale-up while preserving the companies values and culture. And also have fun while doing it!”
Tim, BI Consultant
Tim, welcome aboard! What are you going to do at Xomnia? “I want to let data tell the story. Dashboarding (BI) helps enormously with that. I will also put my project management skills into practice. Stakeholders, expectations, forecasting, budgets, technical innovations. All great fun… But how to ensure that everyone is aligned with everything? A cool challenge. Storytelling through data, that is what I am going for.”
Daniel, Big Data Engineer
Daniel, plenty of opportunities around for an experienced engineer. Why did you choose Xomnia and can you tell us a little bit about yourself? “I really like Xomnia’s “get-stuff-done” attitude. The best example, I think, is the self-driving boat, going from “random idea” during drinks to “hey, we could actually get this to solve a real-world problem”. Taking an idea like that, developing it, and then applying it in the real world is an awesome achievement! Two months ago, a dream of mine came true: I was a speaker at the Spark Summit in San Francisco, check-out my gig here! It was an awesome experience, both on a personal and on a professional level. I hope to be able to repeat the achievement in the future, by speaking at other international (data) engineering events (who knows, maybe wearing a Xomnia shirt 😉 ). Going off script a bit, a fun FACT is that I have 3 nationalities by birth, I’m half Irish, half Dutch, and technically also English because I was born in England.”
Sinit, Data Science Intern
Welcome Sinit, what are you up to and what made you decide to join us? “Xomnia seems like a place where I can learn a lot about data science. Furthermore, the company has a nice atmosphere and I know that they are involved in some really cool projects. I am going to push the boundaries of AI and technology in general by making something that has not been made before: a computer DJ.”
We are also very happy to share that Daan signed as a Data Science intern, that Maurice will start as our new Head of Training, Casper as Account Manager, Frits as MarCom Intern, Wouter as auto docking intern, Martin as Consultant, and Kaloyan as Support Engineer.
Next, we present to you… Data Science Class 11
We asked this fresh group the same kind of questions… Some of them replied 😀
“I chose for the traineeship because it is the perfect combo between smart people in my field of study, their broad offer of technical challenges, and of course the fun/young vibe” – Gianmarco
“During my Data Science traineeship, I expect to further develop and apply my data science skills in practice. Also, I love board games like Scythe!” – Jolien
“For the past two years, I have worked together with a friend of mine on a model that is able to predict soccer games and beat the bookies! In theory it is very profitable. In the upcoming season we are going to test it for real!!” – Nicky
Last but not least… Big Data Engineering class 3
Different group, different perspectives?
“Given that I have a background more in line with data science, I hope to broaden my knowledge through the data engineering traineeship. After this year, I want to have a clear sense of direction when it comes to what my next step will look like (more science or more engineering). Xomnia seems (and so far has proven) to be a group of very knowledgeable people who not only have created an environment where I can learn a lot but also make for a company that is genuinely fun to work at.” – Sven
“My goals are to learn to use all the latest big data engineering tools, have fun and meeting other engineers. I chose Xomnia because of the nice environment and great energy. Also, the program is really good, with 4 days of practical work experience and one day training, every week. I speak 5 languages, which is fun and practical ;)” – Martha
