Data-driven opportunities for municipalities

g4-cio-logo

Municipalities should do a better job of using Big Data, concludes Computable in an article about the G4 CIO congress that took place on Tuesday the 10th of November. The congress was aimed to inspire municipalities and help them exchange knowledge of current Big Data projects. Among the topics discussed were citizen generated data, input optimization, and privacy concerns.

Xomnia has been focusing on municipal Big Data projects for a while now. We work together closely with a few of the Netherlands' municipalities, including Gemeente Utrecht, for whom we developed a burglary prediction model . At the congress, Utrecht shared its experiences putting the model into practice:

By analyzing the available data, we make predictions about districts and streets with high probability of a burglary occurring. This allows us to take preventive action.
Maarten Schurink.

We hope the G4 CIO congress has inspired more municipalities to take the step towards data-driven government. Another interesting event from Big Data Gemeenten will take place Friday the 20th of November in which over a dozen municipalities join in. There are still some spots left. We are happy to help out along the way, so do not hesitate to contact us or join in next week!
